SOJOURN ON THE RED CARPET

Sojourn’s 30th anniversary Gala was held on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel. The event paid tribute to those who have provided inspiration, given comfort or offered guidance to battered women and their children, and raised much needed operating support for Sojourn.

Sojourn honored the following individuals at the gala: Victor Rivers, Author, Activist, Actor and Athlete, with the Humanitarian of the Year Award; Susan Millmann Esq., Sr. Attorney, Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, with the Sheila James Kuehl Award for her commitment to victims of abuse; and for the first time two individuals Miss Rosario Dawson and Miss Jennifer Love-Hewitt received Sojourn’s Inspiration of the Year Award. Hosted by the Sojourn Resource Board, the event was a huge success and raised over $151,000 for Sojourn!


BLUES BY THE SEA – CELEBRATING TURNING POINT

Blues by the Sea, hosted by Turning Point’s Resource Board, was held on Sunday, July 15, 2007 at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel and raised over $29,000! The event salutes individuals, groups and businesses for their outstanding support of Turning Point Transitional Housing. The following awards were presented: Open Heart Award – Recognizing Service, to the West Los Angeles Tzu Chi Service Center; Generous Spirit Award – Recognizing Unparalleled Generosity, to Donna Gentry; Brilliant Star Award – Recognizing Contribution by a Corporation, to Saint John’s Health Center.


OPPENHEIMER CONTINUES A TRADITION OF GIVING

For the seventh consecutive year the employees of Oppenheimer & Co, Los Angeles decided it was better to give then to receive. In lieu of their own holiday party, the employees of Oppenheimer & Co, Los Angeles threw a holiday party for the adult clients of the Access Center. Oppenheimer employees were on hand to serve food, bus tables and distribute backpacks containing socks, gloves and caps.


3RD ANNUAL COMEDY NIGHT FOR SOJOURN

On Friday evening March 7th, the Sojourn Resource Board hosted a hilarious night of comedy featuring stand-up comedians, Bryan Callen, Kyle Cease, Whitney Cummings, Joe DeRosa and Wendy Liebman. The evening was topped off with the hilarious commentary on the human condition by Louie Anderson. The two-time Emmy award winner has been supporting Sojourn and other organizations with his talent and money, in keeping with his philosophy of giving back to his community.

The evening would not have happened without Jennifer Mayer and Adrian Kulp who secured the evening talents. Sojourn would also like to thank Josh Lieberman, Matt Schuler, Jodi Lieberman, Bernie Spektor, Brian Volk-Weiss, Ahmos Hassan and Bill Rich Photography. With wine, snacks, dessert and lots of laughs, the evening was a resounding success raising $10,000.
