HATS OFF TO TURNING POINT
Turning Point’s Volunteer Resource Board hosted Hats Off to Turning Point their annual fundraising event on Sunday, July 20th at the beautiful Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel. A scrumptious lunch featured fare from The Lobster, Locanda del Lago, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Wisconsin Cheese and the Loews with wines from Northern Trust Bank. Guests were also treated to the lush sounds of the Sam Graham Trio.
The event saluted an individual and businesses for their outstanding support of Turning Point. Laurel Rosen, President of the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce and former Turning Point Resource Board Chair received the Generous Spirit Award and the Steaven Jones Development Company received the Brilliant Star Award for their contributions as a Good Neighbor and Corporate Partner.
The Resource Board is especially grateful to the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel who has been a partner in Turning Point’s event the past seven years. They also wish to extend a very special thank you to Dellarobbia Design Studio & Flower Market, Robin O’Connell Design and Superfast Printing Services. “All these supporters help keep our costs down so more of the money raised goes directly to Turning Point,” said Board Chair, Jen Hutchinson.
DAYBREAK CELEBRATES 20 YEARS OF SERVICE
Daybreak’s 20th Anniversary celebration hosted by the Daybreak Resource Board was held on Sunday, June 22nd at the Santa Monica Museum in Bergamot Station. In addition to celebrating 25 years of service to the community, Daybreak paid tribute to its founders, Darlene Lasher, Betty Macias, Janet Chunn and Russell Lane and Daybreak Resource Board Founders Mary DeMund, Gail Hyams, Darlene Lasher, Lenny Neidorf and Joan Rauch. The afternoon included music by the Sam Graham Trio and a raffle drawing.
The Resource Board wishes to extend a special thank you to CMC Catering who served a fabulous buffet offering a wide variety of tasty treats. They also gratefully acknowledge the event sponsors, individuals and businesses who donated time, raffle items and funds to the event that raised over $42,000 for Daybreak
3RD ANNUAL COMEDY NIGHT FOR SOJOURN
On Friday evening March 7th, the Sojourn Resource Board hosted a hilarious night of comedy featuring stand-up comedians, Bryan Callen, Kyle Cease, Whitney Cummings, Joe DeRosa and Wendy Liebman. The evening was topped off with the hilarious commentary on the human condition by Louie Anderson. The two-time Emmy award winner has been supporting Sojourn and other organizations with his talent and money, in keeping with his philosophy of giving back to his community.
The evening would not have happened without Jennifer Mayer and Adrian Kulp who secured the evening talents. Sojourn would also like to thank Josh Lieberman, Matt Schuler, Jodi Lieberman, Bernie Spektor, Brian Volk-Weiss, Ahmos Hassan and Bill Rich Photography. With wine, snacks, dessert and lots of laughs, the evening was a resounding success raising $10,000.
SOJOURN ON THE RED CARPET
Sojourn’s 30th anniversary Gala was held on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel. The event paid tribute to those who have provided inspiration, given comfort or offered guidance to battered women and their children, and raised much needed operating support for Sojourn.
Sojourn honored the following individuals at the gala: Victor Rivers, Author, Activist, Actor and Athlete, with the Humanitarian of the Year Award; Susan Millmann Esq., Sr. Attorney, Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, with the Sheila James Kuehl Award for her commitment to victims of abuse; and for the first time two individuals Miss Rosario Dawson and Miss Jennifer Love-Hewitt received Sojourn’s Inspiration of the Year Award. Hosted by the Sojourn Resource Board, the event was a huge success and raised over $151,000 for Sojourn!
