Become A Sojourn Volunteer
Thank you for wanting to volunteer at Sojourn. We appreciate your interest in our mission of providing high quality and comprehensive support services to victims of domestic violence in Los Angeles County and across the country. The next training will begin on Tuesday, September 18, 2007.
All interested individuals must attend a mandatory domestic violence counselor training program mandated by California Evidence Code §1037.1. Trainings are held in the spring and fall. After you have attended all training sessions and volunteered with our organization for 6 months, you will receive a certificate of achievement which will indicate completion of your training.
Volunteer opportunities include working in the following areas:
• 24-Hour Hotline Program
• Community Education and Outreach Program
• OCEAN (On-Call Emergency Advocate Network) Program
• Children’s Program
In addition, while you are volunteering in any of these four programs, you also will have the opportunity to assist with GROW (the shelters’ horticultural therapy program), provide court accompaniment/ advocacy and clerical assistance, and help with fundraising.
Our volunteers learn and apply valuable skills, including peer counseling, domestic violence safety assessment, and community education.
