HOUSING

OPCC's Approach

Empowering People to Rebuild Their Lives by obtaining permanent, supportive housing is the solution to homelessness as OPCC has proven assisting one person at a time. Our approach is to meet the individualized needs of our clients emphasizing three things to ensure success in housing:  1) Paying the rent on time; 2) Being a good neighbor; 3) Care of the apartment. This is the housing mantra echoed by staff and residents. Once a client gets situated into their own apartment they continue to receive ongoing support from their Housing Coordinator and community of peers including the Turning Point Alumni group and Daybreak Women in New Directions. We continue to support individuals in their housing for more than 10 years after initial placement. These two groups support successful independent living and community integration by providing social and recreational activities such as holiday celebrations, monthly BBQs and field trips. Over time, many of the individuals successfully housed become OPCC volunteers and staff members.
