With the need for permanent housing options ever increasing, in November 2001 OPCC partnered with a non-profit housing development organization and opened the Maryland Apartments, a beautifully renovated 29 unit studio apartment building located west of downtown Los Angeles.  It currently houses former graduates from OPCC projects. The residents of Maryland Apartments are successfully housed despite the challenges posed by their mental illness and prior history of chemical dependency. Several of the residents attribute their success to the community feeling created within the building and support provided by OPCC. A Residential Services Coordinator provides ongoing support, crisis intervention when needed and a range of social and recreational activities including an on-site computer lab. The Maryland Apartments have maintained an annual housing retention rate of 90% annually since the building’s inception.
