Sojourn Volunteers

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Sojourn. We appreciate your desire to support our mission of providing high quality and comprehensive support services to victims of domestic violence in Los Angeles County and across the country.
 
All interested individuals must attend a mandatory 40- hour domestic violence counselor training program mandated by California Evidence Code §1037.1.  Trainings are held in the spring and fall. After you have attended all training sessions and volunteered with our organization for 6 months, you will receive a certificate of achievement which will indicate completion of your training. The next training will begin early April 2018. 
 
Volunteer opportunities include working in the following areas:
  • 24-Hour Hotline
  • Empowerment playgroups
  • Support groups
  • Court /Visitation accompainment
  • Interpretation/Translation
  • GROW - the horticultural therapy program
  • Donation sorting
  • Transportation
  • Clerical work
Our volunteers learn and apply valuable skills including crisis intervention, peer counseling, safety planning, and working with women and children within an empowerment model.
